Merchiston Homestead
A grand homestead which stands on a terrace of the Rangitikei River just 2 miles from Rata. Built 1908 in seasoned heart timber, featuring two floors, 34 rooms and a roof of Marseilles tiles. On top of the house majestically stands a Bell Tower from which parklike gardens, lake and surrounding farmland can be viewed. Beautifully intact interiors.
Merchiston is approached by a long drive lined with macrocarpas and pines planted for shelter and many deciduous trees such as oaks, ashes, ginkgo’s, chestnuts and linden trees are all under-planted with hellebores, bluebells and 1000s of daffodils in the spring.
